From Our President
What a great turn out we had for our December meeting! We were so lucky to have Bill and Beth from Pincushion Boutique PLUS great food PLUS fun raffle prizes PLUS a gift exchange. (You ladies are all such good cooks. Maybe there's a cookbook in our future.) We really topped off a fabulous year!
IMPORTANT NEWS: Dinner with the Board…The Board Meeting for January has been moved due to Road to California. We will meet on Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at 7:00 pm at the Green House Café on Bouquet Canyon Road. Please come join us. Your ideas and inspiration help to guide your guild. We need you to roll up your sleeves and jump in to help us continue to offer the services we have all enjoyed these many years.
I hope you have a wonderful New Year’s celebration! I know that 2007 will be a great year for our guild!
Hugs all around,
Kris

January Program
Patricia Pepe will be our speaker for January 11th meeting. She is the designer and creator of the X-Blocks™ Rotary cutting tool. Her tool creates many different designs from simple blocks or strips and makes spectacular quilts that look complex. She also designed a line of X-Block patterns to be used with the tool.
If you would like to preview her work, you can check out her web site at

See ya there

SEWING DAY
Saturday Sewing Day
(Feb.17 & March 17) at Millie's, Helena has reserved the rec. room for Sat Jan 27 and Feb 24, 2007. At these two Sewing Days we will be working on community projects.
Late Breaking News
Millie Ballace called the other day to ask that the following information be included in our newsletter:
The January 27, 2007 Community Service sewing day at Millie’s clubhouse will include an opportunity to teach a child how to sew.
If you would like to bring a child to this sewing day you should also bring a sewing machine and basic sewing supplies. You do not need to be a member to take part in this activity.
Instruction will be provided by volunteers and ultimately the child will have the opportunity to sew on community service items.
If you have any questions, please call Millie Ballace. |

Fat Quarter Exchange
I have offered to “man the ship” for our guild’s monthly drawing for fat quarters for 2007. It occurred to me that it always seems to be, “National Something-or-other Month”, or “National Hoozit Week” and we might have some fun with that, so here we go.
January is both National Hot Tea month, and National Gourmet Coffee Month. How is that for a theme?
Bring a fat quarter that is tea or coffee colored, has a tea or coffee themed print on it, or has been tea or coffee dyed. This should be fun.
As always, for each fat quarter you bring, put your name on a slip of paper and drop it in for the drawing. You could win a a whole “pot full.’

Block of the Month
Block of the Month
Carolyn Walker and I were the lucky winners of all the lovely blocks at the Holiday meeting.
The block for February is a very striking star block that is a little bit of work (because of all the pieces) but is well worth the effort. Please give it a try. See you at the January meeting.

Reaching Out to Others
This quilt was made by the loving hands of members of the
Santa Clarita Valley Quilt Guild,
who, through their love of quilting, share this symbol of
comfort with you.
This quilt label can represent our guild throughout 2007 on the many, many quilts we distribute throughout our community and to charitable programs.
Helena Woodworth, our community service chair has provided the following information regarding some of the good work we completed in 2006.
Santa Clarita Valley Quilt Guild
2006 Community Service Donations
.
?More than 100 quilts were provided to the Michael Hoefflin Foundation
.
?Many completed quilts were delivered to the
.
.
?Six quilts were provided to a member for inclusion in the Christmas gifts for a family in need
..
In addition to the regular meetings (Feb.17 & March 17) at Millie's, I have reserved the rec. room for Sat Jan 27 and Feb 24, 2007. At these two meeting we will be working on community projects.
We have some completed tops, with backs and batting that we need sandwiched and quilted. It would be greatly appreciated if we could get these done and delivered to the Turtle Camp before their season starts. You don't have to be a guild member in order to come and join us at these meetings. Everyone is welcome. From recent communication with the camp they need both bed size (50" x 80") and the smaller take home quilts (35" to 40W x 45"to 50"L).

Quilt Show Info for 2007
Quilt Show Info
The first meeting of the Quilt Show committee for our Fall 2007 show will be Thursday, Jan 25th. The location will be announced at the January SCVQG meeting on January 11th.
Here is what I need from YOU before then:
If you served on a committee in the past, PLEASE find any Quilt Show folders, bins, information you may have at your house - and bring it to the January 11th meeting OR send me an email to let me know that you will be bringing it on Jan 25th.
If you want to chair a particular committee, please email me with your request: pvfleischer@hotmail.com (put the word 'quilt' in the subject) I especially want to hear from you if you have ideas about doing something 'different' with the committee this year!
If you have never served on the Quilt Show committee, please come to January 25th meeting to hear more about it OR email me and I'll send you a description of what each committee does.
Here is a list of the committees we've used in the past. This may not be the same list we use for the 2007 show, depending on YOUR input:
Boutique Catalog
Community Service Door Prizes
Frames Quilt Photos
Hospitality Opportunity Quilt
Publicity Quilt Registration
Exhibit Quilt Descriptions
Quilts for Sale Ribbons
Show Treasurer Indoor Signage
Outdoor Signage Staffing
Vendors Other??
I plan to have 8 meetings for the 2007 quilt show in the following months: Jan, Mar, May, July, Aug, Sept, Oct, Nov. They will probably be on Thursday nights, but I'm flexible on this.
Now that I work full time, I'm hard to reach on the phone, but ALWAYS available via email: pvfleischer@hotmail.com.
I'm really looking forward to a great show: a great way to share our fabulous quilts with the community, a great chance to shop some quilt supply vendors, a great opportunity to raise the money the guild needs to operate for the next 2 years!
